Austin's infatuation with cinema all started when he saw the movie, Jaws.  One of his short films made at 18 landed on Steven Speilberg's desk, who then invited Austin to start his career as writer and director in the US.

After writing and directing Frank Langella in the feature film, Breaking the Fifth he shot dozens of long form documentaries. After some 100 commercial productions as director, cinematographer and editor, he trained as a commercial pilot, then qualified at UCLA in the emergency medical field of trauma, pediatric and cardiac life support, which led to joining the fire department as an emsr. In between directing assignments,  Austin can usually be found treating patients on a fire engine or an ambulance.
